FEBRUARY

  • 9th - 24th : The French Polynesian Chinese community celebrates the New Year.
  • 10th - Moorea Marathon 19th Edition. Experts consider this to be one of the finest marathon competitions in the world, with over 635 entrants from many nationalities.
  • 11th Moorea "TERE FA’ATI"
  • 19th Tahiti Nui Triathlon.
  • 27th - 5th of March: Tahitian International Billfish Tournament.


MARCH

  • 1st - 31st: Exhibition “THE POLYNESIAN MARAE” At Fare Manihini, Papeete, Tahiti.
    Presentation centered on two main themes : history and the various parts of a mara
  • 4th - 10th: Raiatea International Billfish Tournament
  • 5th The Coming of the Gospel. This year marks the 210th anniversary of the coming of the Gospel.
  • 24th - 25th: Tahiti Tourism Body Surfing and Skimboarding or“FA’AHE’E TINO & FA’AHE’E IRI” This event, supported by the Taapuna Surf Club, is for water sports fanatics an occasion to prove their talent in body-surfing or skim-boarding.


APRIL

  • 1st - 30th: Exhibition : “POLYNESIANS ANS THE SEA – NAPUKA”, at Fare Manihini, Papeete, Tahiti.
     2 main themes: the Tuamotu archipelago from 1929 to 2000, and ancient fishing techniques.
  • 23rd - 28th: Trial Air Tahiti Nui von Zipper Surfing. Qualifying surf competition in Teahupoo (Tahiti), prior to the famous Billabong Pro.


MAY

  • 4th - 13th: Billibong Pro Surfing. An international competition amongst the world's best surfers on Teahupoo's mythical wave in Tahiti.
  • 11th The Land of Men Marathon.  A one-of-a-kind marathon in Hiva Oa, by its location, its atmosphere, the simplicity of the island’s people.  In unblemished surroundings, Marquesan horsemen ride along the athletes.
  • Mid-May VA’A TEA Eco Race.  From Raiatea to Tahiti, a boat race honoring renewable energies in which boats powered by primary energy compete against boats powered by man-made fuel.
  • 17th - 20th: Tahiti Pearl Regatta 4th Edition. International regatta in the Leeward Islands starting from Raiatea (Uturoa) to Taha’a, Bora Bora and Huahine. On each leg, trophies are awarded to the winners of various categories and each days ends with a Polynesian dinner and a dance show.
  • 26th Raid Moorea 4th Edition. Individual or team races on Moorea. Kayak (5 km), mountainbike (25 km) and running in the mountains (12 km).


JUNE

  • 23rd Heemoana Race 6th Edition
  • 27th-1st July: International Golf Open at Atimaono on the Olivier Breaud golf course in Mataiea, approximately 50 km from Papeete (Tahiti).


JULY

  • 7th Tahiti Tourisme Cup 2nd Edition. International regatta from Raiatea (Uturoa wharf) to Taha’a (Apooiti marina) in the morning. The afternoon is devoted to a small trade fair of the islands’ sea and land activities, with va’a (outrigger canoe) initiation followed by a symbolic canoe race between regatta entrants.
  • 7th - 14th:  Friendship Tour. Cycling race on Tahiti and Moorea, for professionals and amateurs from various Pacific rim countries.
  • Mid-July Te Aito. One-day individual outrigger canoe race over appr. 10 km. The best 100 rowers qualify for the « Super Aito » race.
  • HEIVA I TAHITI - The largest gathering of choral and dance groups takes place at To’ata Square in downtown Papeete in Tahiti. However, in recent years the Heiva is also celebrated in other towns on the island (Mahina, Papara) and on some Leeward Islands (Bora Bora, Raiatea).
  • HEIVA OF THE ARTISANS - A big crafts exhibition based around the theme of Polynesian legends that brings together all the artists from the four corners of French Polynesia.


AUGUST

  • Mid-August TE VAI ARI’I marathon or « SUPER AITO » -Three-day individual outrigger canoe race featuring the best hundred rowers of the moment and of the “Te Aito” race, over distances of 5, 10, 15 and 20 km.


SEPTEMBER

  • 1st - 23rd: Taapuna Master Surfing - 6 days surf amateur competition Taapuna pass (Punaauia), featuring several disciplines and categories, weather permitting.
  • 23rd Raid Painapo 6th Edition - Three-people-teams competition on Moorea.
  • 27th World Tourism Day - In Tahiti and her Islands, this year’s focus will be on “Tourism, an open door for women”.
  • Taapuna ProAm Surfing 5th Edition- Surf competition in Taapuna pass, with the best amateur and professional surfers and body-boarders.


OCTOBER

  • Rotui's Tour 6th Edition - Foot race around the Rotui’s mount (Moorea) of 15 km.
  • 31st - 2nd: HAWAIKI NUI VA’A - In the Leeward Islands. Va’a (canoe racing) is the classic, traditional sport. Over 100 canoes will race between the islands of Huahine, Raiatea, Taha’a and Bora Bora. Finishing point at Matira Point (Bora Bora). Contact: ftvaa@ifrance.com  Website: www.hawaihinuivaa.p
  • Exhibition : “THE AUSTRAL ARCHIPELAGO -  At Fare Manihini, Papeete, Tahiti.
    Discover the many faces of the Austral Islands.


NOVEMBER

  • 6th - 11th: Tatoonesia - In Tahiti, a meeting of all Polynesian and foreign tattoo artists to share with visitors their designs, techniques and materials used in this ancestral art form.
  • 17th - 18th: TAHITI TOURISME AITO PA’E - Traditional “pentathlon” for athletes of the five archipelagos, with the support of the traditional Sports Federation.
  • Exhibition: “TATTOO” - At Fare Manihini, Papeete, Tahiti.This exhibition is a natural partner of this month’s main event, “Tattoonesia”.


DECEMBER

  • 1st Rotui Green Triathlon 5th Edition - On Moorea, trials organized in 3 disciplines: swimming (400 or 800 m), cycling (8 or 20 km) and running (4 or 6km).
  • 17th - 20th: Marquesas Arts Festival - Marquesan arts and culture converge for a few days on the island of Ua Pou in the Marquesas archipelago.
  • Exhibition: « IN GAUGUIN’S FOOTSTEPS » - At Fare Manihini, Papeete, Tahiti. This exhibition retraces the life of the illustrious painter, whose name is now etched in Polynesian history, in colonial Tahiti and her islands.
  • Christmas and St. Sylvester celebrations throughout Tahiti and her islands.
